New beginnings for Singleton
Leading expert on planning, infrastructure, resilience and leadership, David Singleton, has announced his retirement from his role at Arup after 40+ years with the firm.
"I have seen a lot of change in the engineering and infrastructure world over the last 40 years but the basic rules for successful project delivery remain essentially the same," said David Singleton, as he steps down from his corporate role at Arup, to focus on his various board roles in the engineering industry more broadly.
"I'm excited about this new chapter of my career and intend to focus on the Boards and industry bodies which I'm involved with, and some new roles and partnerships across a variety of industries and government sectors," he said.
Chairman of Arup in Australia, Peter Bailey said David has been, and will continue to be, a leading figure in the industry.
"David has a special interest in drawing the engineering profession together to forge closer links with other influential groups such as policy makers, politicians, academia and scientists," said Mr Bailey. "Throughout his career, David has demonstrated the positive and tangible impact engineers can have on our communities... and he is viewed as an authority in the field of engineering, and as a respected and trusted senior member of the profession."
Global Chair of Arup Greg Hodkinson said David's contribution, to the firm and the engineering industry more broadly, has been significant.
"David has had a distinguished Arup career over 40 years, from structural engineer to transportation engineer to Chairman of the independent Australian practice who brought the merger with Arup Group to Group Board Director to Chairman of our Infrastructure Practice to Group Sustainability Director to Planning Practice Leader.
"He has made a significant contribution in all of these roles and left them all better than he found them. I thank David for his contribution to Arup and wish him all the very best for whatever comes next." David will continue in his role as Chairman of the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia and with his non executive director roles on Boards including Standards Australia and Swinburne University of Technology.
